Reviewing Restaurants
We love a well prepared meal, where the chef has picked the best ingredients and made an effort in order to surprise our taste buds. The latter years, we have visited various Michelin-star awarded restaurants with different cuisines.
Here, we review our restaurant experiences. We began blogging in November 2018, and before that you’ll have to settle with our general impression of various Michelin star restaurants.
We only have one challenge: Shellfish allergy. Therefore, none of our reviews contain descriptions of that kind of seafood.
By the way, we don’t take pictures of the food. We enjoy it.
Where We Went
WHEN | MICHELIN | WHERE | HOW WAS IT |
2023 | ★ | Syttende, Sønderborg, Denmark | New Nordic. Has lost its mojo, lack of imagination and inspiration. No longer value for money. Read our review. |
2022 | ★ | Wild Honey, London, England | Modern British. Inspirational and absolutely worth a visit. Read our review. |
2022 | ★ | Wullenwever, Lübeck, Germany | Modern German. Too casual, too impersonal, lack of soul and execution. We wonder why they deserve their one star. Read our review. |
2022 Revisited: 2022 2023 |
★ | Ritz Restaurant, London, England | Modern British. We were not putting on The Ritz. They embraced us with a wonderful experience. Absolutely worth visiting. Read our review. |

2016 Revisited: 2020 |
★ | Frederikshøj, Aarhus, Denmark | New Nordic. In 2016 we got intelligent food, well thought out wine pairings, and a staff that really impressed. A very good, wholesome experience. I 2020 it was even better – still a very solid 1-star restaurant with attention to details and surprises. Absolutely worth a visit. Read our review. |
2020 | ★ | Kadeau, Bornholm, Denmark |
New Nordic. Some good courses, but all in all a bit of a disappointment. Excellent view, high expectations, but failing two main courses is a huge faux pas. Read our review.

2017 Revisited: 2020 |
★
|
Domestic, Aarhus, Denmark |
New Nordic. We visited this reastaurant in 2017, where we had a fantastic evening; everything worked, cosy settings, pleasant waiters and chefs. We decided to revisit in 2020, and once again we had wonderful evening at a very solid 1-star restaurant. Excellent service and food. Read our review.

2017 Revisited: 2019 |
★ |
Dragsholm Slot, Dragsholm, Denmark | New Nordic. In 2017, we celebrated New Year’s Eve at this castle and got an amazing and beautifully plated dinner. Impressive, since this was an evening with several hundred guests all over the castle. In 2019, we returned for a more quiet dinner, and there is no doubt about the chef’s high culinary ambitions. Read our review. |
2018 Revisited: 2019 |
★ |
Me|Mu, Vejle, Denmark | New Nordic. First visit: Well-balanced experience. Beautifully plated dishes. Revisit: Underwhelming. Timing issues. Lack of hospitality and atmosphere. We left halfway through the dinner. Read our review. |

★ |
The Dining Room, The Goring Hotel, London, England | Classic French. Didn’t really impress, average. |

Substans, Aarhus, Denmark | New Nordic. Average food; the wine failed to impress. A very good example of an experience ruined by rude and arrogant servants. |
2016 Revisited: 2018 |
★ |
Frederiksminde Hotel, Præstø, Denmark | New Nordic. Beautiful settings. Solid and elegant servings with many local ingredients. At our first visit, sadly, they failed the main courses; however, we were impressed with the starters. At our second visit, everything was perfect. |

★ |
La Truffe Noire, Brussels, Belgium | Italian. Best truffel experience ever. Charming chef and host. We will forever remember Luigi Ciciriello. |
2015 |
★ |
Vau, Berlin, Germany | Modern French. Chaos in the kitchen. Late servings. Sand in the asparagus. Nothing worked that evening; many tables waited hours for their food, and we left halfway through the tasting dinner. Now – understandably – closed. |
2014 Revisited: 2015 |
★★ |
Lorenz Adlon, Berlin, Germany | Classic French. Been there twice, will absolutely revisit a third time. Both evenings were perfect, and in our opinion, this is Berlin’s best restaurant. |
2014 |
★★ |
Fischers Fritz, Berlin, Germany | Classic French. Surprised that they have two Michelin stars. The food didn’t impress, and the wine pairings were off. They didn’t have a sommelier. |
2014 |
★ |
Amaya, London, England | Indian. Disappointed about the settings, which felt like a cafeteria. The food was bland. |
2014 |
★★ |
Le Gavroche, London, England | Classic French. Deemed one of the best restaurants in London, but this evening they failed. We are considering a revisit in order to get a second opinion. |
2014 Revisited: 2016 |
★★ |
Dinner by Heston, London, England | Molecular creative. Very pleasant experience and the only time, where one of us ordered the same dessert twice. |

Dirk Meieri, Flensburg, Germany | Contemporary German. First visit a very elaborate menu with too many servings. Second time very well balanced and a pleasant experience. |
