Reviewing Restaurants

We love a well prepared meal, where the chef has picked the best ingredients and made an effort in order to surprise our taste buds. The latter years, we have visited various Michelin-starred restaurants with different cuisines.

Here, we review our restaurant experiences. We began blogging in November 2018, and before that you’ll have to settle with our general impression of various Michelin star restaurants.

We only have one challenge: Shellfish allergy. Therefore, none of our reviews contain descriptions of that kind of seafood.

By the way, we don’t take pictures of the food. We enjoy it.

2018

Modern cuisine. Lived up to expectations. Read our review.

2018

MeMu, Vejle, Denmark

New Nordic. Well-balanced experience. Beautifully plated dishes.

2018

Seven Park Place, London, England

Modern. Beautiful lunch, good value for money, pleasant servants.

2018

★★★

Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester

Classic French. One of the best restaurants in London. Solid three stars.

2018

★★

Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, London, England

Classic French. Solid two stars. Everything worked.

2017

Dragsholm Slot, Dragsholm, Denmark

New Nordic. Spend New Year’s Eve at this castle and got an amazing and beautifully plated dinner. Impressive, since this was an evening with several hundred guests all over the castle.

2017

Domestic, Aarhus, Denmark

New Nordic. Fantastic evening where everything worked. Cosy settings, pleasant servers. Will definitely revisit.

2017

The Dining Room, The Goring Hotel, London, England

Classic French. Didn’t really impress, average.

2016

Frederikshøj, Aarhus, Denmark

New Nordic. Intelligent food, well thought out wine pairings, and a staff that really impressed. A very good, wholesome experience.

2016

Substans, Aarhus, Denmark

New Nordic. Average food; the wine failed to impress. A very good example of an experience ruined by rude and arrogant servants.

2018

Frederiksminde Hotel, Præstø, Denmark

New Nordic. Beautiful settings. Solid and elegant servings with many local ingredients. At our first visit, sadly, they failed the main courses; however, we were impressed with the starters. At our second visit, everything was perfect.

2016

Henne Kirkeby Kro, Henne Kirkeby, Denmark

New Nordic. Cosy settings. Clever use of local produce.  Now ★★.

2016

Gymkhana, London, England

Indian. Cosy pub-setting. Good dishes that functioned well.

2016

Murano, London, England

Contemporary Italian. Very pleasant lunch.

2016

Arbutus, London, England

Contemporary British. Very pleasant lunch, excellent salmon. Sadly, now closed.

2016

Marchal, Copenhagen, Denmark

Classic French. Average experience, nothing really stood out, and nothing was really bad.

2016

★★

Marcus, London, England

Classic French. A very solid, positive, and wholesome experience. They served one of the best carrots in the world.

2015

Gastromé, Aarhus, Denmark

New Nordic. Relaxed atmosphere, well-balanced menu with good pairings of wine and beer. We had one of the best broths ever.

2015

La Truffe Noire, Brussels, Belgium

Italian. Best truffel experience ever. Charming chef and host. We will forever remember Luigi Ciciriello.

2015

Vau, Berlin, Germany

Modern French. Chaos in the kitchen. Late servings. Sand in the asparagus. Nothing worked that evening; many tables waited hours for their food, and we left halfway through the tasting dinner. Now – understandably – closed.

2014
Revisited:
2015

★★

Lorenz Adlon, Berlin, Germany

Classic French. Been there twice, will absolutely revisit a third time. Both evenings were perfect, and in our opinion, this is Berlin’s best restaurant.

2014

★★

Fischers Fritz, Berlin, Germany

Classic French. Surprised that they have two Michelin stars. The food didn’t impress, and the wine pairings were off. They didn’t have a sommelier.

2014

Amaya, London, England

Indian. Disappointed about the settings, which felt like a cafeteria. The food was bland.

2014

★★

Le Gavroche, London, England

Classic French. Deemed one of the best restaurants in London, but this evening they failed. We are considering a revisit in order to get a second opinion.

Molecular creative. Very pleasant experience and the only time, where one of us ordered the same dessert twice.

2013

Kong Hans, Copenhagen, Denmark

New Nordic. One of those evenings where every part of the experience was perfect.

Contemporary German. First visit a very elaborate menu with too many servings.
Second time very well balanced and a pleasant experience.

Indian. Our first experience with Indian food at this level. Basic, but good.

2012
